Zenith of the Alphabet, the Zoo Trip!

So we went to the Roger Williams Park Zoo today.  The kids loved loved loved it!!!  CJ's favorite was the Chinese Alligator, and Eliza's was the Elephant.  We identified marsupials, mammals, insects, reptiles and amphibians.  We took tons of pictures, and walked through the wetlands.  We talked all about several types of habitats, and what it means when a species in endangered or extinct.  We identified which animals were carnivores, which were herbivores, and which were omnivores.  The kids made it through the entire zoo, and we had such a lovely day.

  1. Did they intentionally each choose animals that begin with the same letter as their names? :-)

What a fantastic day and learning-packed and fun and such a great way to cement these ideas you've been discussing!!!

  2. Do you know I didn't even realize they picked animals that started with the letters from their names? I think that is quite amusing! We really had a great time, and we all learned some new things. I do wish that there was more information on some of the animals though. In the Marco Polo trail there is a snow leopard, Moon Bear and some other animals. But there was no information, just a label! I want to know more!

  3. That's not fair! Haha! Maybe they have a guidebook you can get (for next time?) with more information or something. That seems odd that they wouldn't give info at each exhibit. Although I know they were doing reconstruction at a lot of the exhibits last time we were there. Maybe they're not done yet?

  4. That is what I am thinking. I was so excited to see the penguins and polar bears, and they weren't even there. I will surely take them back next year and hope that it will be more complete. In the meantime we research animals on the computer!
